Keeping dentures in tip top condition is easy. Here are a few tips from our Surrey dentist on how to keep your dentures looking great and fitting well.
Clean Dentures Daily
Just like natural teeth, it's important to clean your dentures every day.
You should never use toothpaste on your dentures. Toothpaste is too harsh for dentures and could damage them. Simply use water and a denture brush with soft bristles to brush and clean your dentures thoroughly. Take care to clean every area of your dentures, and be sure not to bend any of the attachments as you brush.
Rinse your dentures with water after each meal, to remove any small particles of food that may be stuck on on them.
Soak Dentures Each Night
Soaking dentures every night makes them easier to clean by helping to loosen the plaque and tartar that builds up on the dentures over the course of the day.
Take your dentures out before going to bed each night and soak them in denture cleaner, or warm water. Note: Only use warm water to soak dentures if they have metal attachments, denture solutions could tarnish the metal.
Soaking dentures is not a substitute for cleaning them properly! If you want to keep your dentures looking great and fitting well, a daily routine of soaking and brushing is key.
Treat Dentures With Care
Placing a folded towel in the sink, (or on the bathroom vanity), while you are handling your dentures can be helpful. The towel will act as a cushion to help protect your dentures from being damaged, if you accidentally drop them.
To prevent dentures from drying out, soak your dentures in water whenever you aren't wearing them.
Remember, if your dentures have metal attachments do not use denture solutions, and never use hot water to clean your dentures since heat may cause your dentures to warp.
