Dental sedation is not generally offered for routine dental x-rays, cleanings or checkups; however, we may be able to offer sedation in these situations for patients suffering from extreme anxiety. Here, our Surrey dentists explain a little more.
Who could benefit from sedation for dentistry?
Those who suffer from any of the follow issues might consider dental sedation:
- General anxiety disorder
- Phobia around dental procedures
- Small mouth that becomes sore during dental work
- Previous bad experience(s) with dental work
- Unusually sensitive oral nerves
- Resistance to local anesthetic
Dental sedation can help patients get through anything from root canals and tooth extractions, to dental implant procedures, with a minimum of stress. That said, dental sedation is typically not offered for regular dental cleanings, x-rays, and other routine dental care.
On the other hand, for patients suffering from any of the issues listed above, sedation may be considered a good solution for helping them get through even routine procedures.
Is dental sedation suitable for me?
Speak with your dentist about your anxiety level if you feel extremely anxious about the prospect of an upcoming appointment. Your dentist can advise you on whether dental sedation is right for you.
If you are a candidate for dental sedation your dentist will also be sure to let you know which type of sedation would be best for you.
